Dmitry Nevozhay I cannot even describe how stunning this album is. Heavily emotional masterpiece of dissonant death. Like more ambient, progressive and post-rocky take on Ulcerate style, therefore more accessible. Yes, reaching the unattainable Ulcerate level. Not copying but extending and developing. Desperate but dreamy, haunting but soothing, reconciling with a grief and inevitability Favorite track: Ruin.

mourner Thanks to Introvertoid for putting this on my radar. Failure, Subside is really every bit as intense and emotional as you and the other commentators say. And with it's close to hypnotic instrumental passages and it's beautiful flow it is very tranceinducing and calming, too. Favorite track: Wither.

Introvertoid AOTY 2016. One of the most intensely emotional albums I've heard in quite some time, this uses a lush, spacious production to deliver contemplative-yet-cathartic death metal exploring the darkest regions of grief and guilt. Heart-wrenching and beautiful. A spectacular debut. Favorite track: Wither.

1.
Dust, dispersed Dancing on pillars of dawn spilled through seas of glass Naught but a breath without the caress of light
2.
Sing, oh children of loss Your cracked hands grasping for wonder in emptiness Stretching to the heavens from the depths of woe Like diamonds buried in ash Embers, smothered by the whispering ache of death Staring blind into the unsound light Still your breath slowly withers Awake, awake, oh sleeper Shroud yourself in the radiance of the unfailing Darkness is naught but a canvas Void awaiting the stroke of dawn Let not these bones remain as shadows, suspended on dust Breathe in life and outshine this soundless ruin This failure built on the vanity of man Awake, oh sleeper Shroud yourself in light Awake, awake, oh sleeper Shroud yourself in light
3.
Wither 10:08
Oh, hear the frail sigh of death, collapsing Still she walks among us Head held high, tarnished in perfect failure A wreckage, a shell, pitiful and weak Crushed beneath the weight of mercy Those timeless wings of radiant sorrow Withering, as dust, to nothingness ‘Forgive me, Father I am but a thread, unraveling Lost unto the air I am undone I am undone’ Oh failure, subside That my voice no longer be still beneath your shadow Spread no more those wings of sorrow Withering, as dust, to nothingness
4.
I am dust and ash Carrying the pallor of despair Lesser light, a tainted reflection of glory I am not what I was made to be And my words have sent sons and daughters to the grave Hearts left to warm the earth in silent ruin My own strength will fall to nothing Old sorrow will soon find me here again But it's sullen thrum will not fracture this shell The resonance of grief echoes not through these walls For in this place of stillness, bitterness is yet turned to the sweetest honey And scars are turned to gold Beauty is found in failure Bitter is turned to sweet Scars are turned to gold All is made new
5.
Mara's Choir 01:46
6.
Vessel 06:47
There’s no light here My hands are raised Though my shoulders ache and shudder beneath the weight This silence ringing in my ears, deafening like the lull of a final breath Drowning out Your voice I can’t feel You here I am not enough, mere dust of earth and breath of God I can feel this body dying all around me This soul is wearing thin, but still You radiate You show me rest in this vessel, broken and weary from the strain Wash me over, wash me over Come oh wind, oh breath of life Still these waves that seek to drown me My voice will rise above these looming mountains These towering pillars of loss and defeat
7.
Ruin 11:11
In this tempest of nothingness Searing like a spark of absence, flickering into flame This darkness is overwhelming Even still Your light consumes me Saturate me As the stars of Heaven and their constellations cease to shimmer Come and shine bright, light of the divine Fracture the grip of the dark, dissolve in ruin and isolation Come and shine bright, light of the divine Saturate me

about

Australia's DEPARTE unleash their monumental debut album 'Failure, Subside'. Far beyond just being extreme, DEPARTE's smoldering darkness is colossal; with vast guitarscapes so thick and discordant as to suffocate life under their oppressive weight. Tracks like the unbelievable "Ashes In Bloom", "Vessel, and "Wither" show a deft ability to bring forth elegance among crushing heaviness in a roiling cauldron of emotional upheaval. Few bands bleed conviction and creativity like DEPARTE, and the enormity of 'Failure, Subside' only underscores how impressive and vital a debut it is.
